Vintage Star Wars Boba Fett

Kenner first produced this iconic figure 1979 with a promise that kids could mail away a certificate and they would receive a the figure in the post. The figure was due to be released with a rocket firing system on the back of the figure juts like in the movie Empire Strikes Back. However there were a few health and safety issues with this and the rocket firing was never produced, instead the figure came with a fixed rocket on Boba Fett’s back. There have been original prototype rocket firing figures which have been labelled the “holy Grail” of vintage Star Wars collecting.
Over the next few years up until 1983 the mold for the figure did not change, however there were many variations of the figure depending on country of origin or COO, for instance the colours on the Taiwan figure and the Hong Kong figures are very different. This has become something of challenge for avid collectors to acquire as many variants of the figure as possible. This is not cheap… trust me, it also takes time to find them in decent condition. Just think the amount of carnage these figures went through with kids playing with them. Condition is everything to collectors whether you are a loose figure collector or mint carded collector.
There are also massive differences in some of the foreign manufacturers in terms of colours and variations, the most expensive being the European Tri Logo card figures which are slightly lighter in colour with differences in the paint work on the knee and Dart on the arm. These figures are sought after and quite expensive but I’m my opinion after the Dark Green Taiwan figure they are the best looking figures.
The French Maccano figures are also slightly different. So as you can see if you are thinking of starting a Boba Fett Vintage figure collection I would say do some research first. But be warned, you will be hooked almost immediately and have a uncontrollable desire to have all of them.
Hasbro re-issued the rocket firing figure in 2010 and looks and displays brilliantly!
Hands down without a doubt the Vintage Boba Fett figure is my all time favourite toy… sorry Action Figure, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
